I Wish I’d Known About Scar Care Before Surgery

Surgery, recovery and time off fill the plan. Scar camouflage rarely does — until afterwards. Why post-surgery scar care belongs in the conversation before your procedure.
Something We Hear Often
“I wish I’d known about this before my surgery.” That sentence comes up again and again at intakes — after a tummy tuck, a breast uplift or reduction, excess skin removal, or another procedure where the scar was never part of the plan.
When you are planning surgery there is already a lot on the list: the procedure itself, recovery, time off work, and getting back to normal. Scar care rarely makes that list. For lots of people the scars heal beautifully. Healing is different for everyone, though, and sometimes the result does not look quite how you hoped.

Scar care belongs in the conversation before the procedure, not only after.
Put Scar Care on the List Early
That is why we think post-surgery scar care deserves a place in the conversation before your procedure — not only afterwards. You do not need to expect the worst. You only need to know that if you are unhappy with how a scar settles, there may be options once it has fully healed.

What May Be Possible Later
Once a scar is fully matured and suitable for treatment — usually at least twelve months after surgery, flat or only slightly raised, and no longer pink or red — scar camouflage can soften the colour difference so the mark reads more like the skin around it.
That covers surgical lines on the abdomen, chest, breast fold, arms and elsewhere we assess in person. You might never need it, and that is absolutely fine. If you do, you already know where to turn instead of starting from scratch.
- Tummy tuck / abdominoplasty scars
- Breast uplift or reduction scars
- Excess skin removal and body-contouring scars
- Other flat surgical scars on the face or body, after assessment

Research options alongside the procedure and recovery budget — even if you never use them.
